Our Philosophy
At Threshold Architects, we believe that architecture begins where the boundaries blur. Founded in 2010 by Lagnajit Mohapatra and Rupanjali Sunderray, our studio was born from a desire to redefine the "threshold"—that critical point where the built environment meets nature, where the local meets the global, and where a house becomes a place of memory.
What started as a humble practice in a 10×10 workspace in Bhubaneswar quickly evolved through passion, persistence, and a commitment to meaningful design. In the same year of its inception, Architect Lagnajit received the prestigious Yuvaratna Award by Aditya Birla, marking an early recognition of the firm’s design vision. The momentum continued when Architect Rupanjali was honored with the Saurashtra Das Young Achiever Award in 2011, strengthening the studio’s growing identity.
In 2012, Threshold Architects secured its first major apartment project at Patrapada, a milestone that expanded the firm’s presence in residential architecture. Between 2013 and 2018, the studio successfully delivered numerous apartment developments across Odisha, building a reputation for thoughtful planning, contextual sensitivity, and functional elegance.
As a young, multidisciplinary firm based in Bhubaneswar, we bring an energetic and research-driven approach to real estate development. We do not simply design buildings; we curate spatial experiences that respond to site, climate, culture, and the evolving aspirations of modern urban living.
The firm’s continued dedication to architectural excellence was nationally recognized with the Young Architect Festival (YAF) Award in 2025 held in Tamil Nadu, reinforcing Threshold Architects as a progressive voice in contemporary Indian architecture.

Ar. Lagnajit Mohapatra
Ar. Lagnajit Mohapatra is the Founder and Principal Architect of Threshold Architects, established in 2010 with a vision to create thoughtful, context-driven architecture that connects people, place, and purpose. Starting the practice from a modest 10×10 studio in Bhubaneswar, he built the firm through dedication, design innovation, and a strong belief that architecture should evolve with changing urban lifestyles while remaining rooted in its surroundings.
His contribution to architecture was recognized early when he received the Yuvaratna Award (2010) by Aditya Birla, marking a significant milestone in the firm’s journey. As a mentor and design leader, he continues to guide young architects while steering Threshold Architects toward progressive, research-driven and future-ready architectural practice.
Ananya Sharma
Rupanjali Sunderray serves as the Chief Design Officer at Threshold Architects, where she leads the firm’s creative vision and design direction. Since the early years of the practice, she has played a pivotal role in shaping the studio’s design philosophy—bringing together sensitivity to context, human-centric planning, and refined aesthetic expression. Her work focuses on creating spaces that are not only visually compelling but also deeply responsive to lifestyle, culture, and environment.
An award-winning architect, Rupanjali was honored with the Saurastra Das Young Achiever Award (2011) in recognition of her emerging contribution to architectural design. Her approach blends research, material exploration, and spatial storytelling, ensuring that every project reflects clarity, purpose, and timeless character.
